BACKGROUND
Terengganu is one of the most charming states in the country with its sandy beaches, picturesque islands, lush virgin tropical forests, quaint fishing villages, dazzling waterfalls, etc.

HISTORY
Historical records showed that an Islamic state existed in Terengganu almost a century before Melaka was founded.

Terengganu later became a vassal state of Melaka and subsequently Johor.

The present royal family of Terengganu was founded in the 18th century.

Terengganu was ceded to the British in 1909 as a result of the Anglo-Siamese Treaty.

The British exerted its influence over Terengganu until the Japanese occupation. After World War II, Terengganu joined the Federation of Malaya.

GETTING THERE
Kuala Terengganu is 491 km from Kuala Lumpur and 555 km from Singapore by road. Express buses and taxis ply between Kuala Terengganu and other major towns on West Malaysia.

Both Malaysia Airlines and Pelangi Air offer regular flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu and Kerteh, 100 km to the south.
